Achievable Waist Reduction
The Waist Reduction rating is the maximum waist reduction achievable of the corset. Just because a corset is rated to a 4 or 5" waist reduction doesn't mean you have to wear them that tightly, you have the choice between comfort & control.
Not interested in Waist Reduction? This rating will give you an idea of the weight of the corsets in our collections, from lingerie to expert level corsetry, as well as the support they offer.
Disguise Rating Explained
The Disguise Rating is how invisible a corset is underneath clothing, relative to the other designs available in our collections.
All Corsets & foundation garments will be difficult to completely disguise underneath bodycon and very tight fitting sheer garments. Dresses with scooped backs can also be problematic when pairing with overbust designs.
Comfort Rating Explained
The Comfort Rating is how comfortable your corset will be. Some fabrics are less suited to longer periods of wear and more theatrical designs can become heavy if wearing all day.
Naturally you will find that your corset will be less comfortable the tighter you lace it, corsetry is about finding the balance between comfort & control that best suits you.
It can be good to take a trip down memory lane and look at just how much prom fashion has developed over the years. Perhaps your older relatives recall the iridescent, shimmery fabrics of the late 80s, or the huge, puffy sleeves of early 90s? Spaghetti straps, cowl-necks, and one-shoulder asymmetrical dresses all made appearances in the naughties. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that it’s no mean feat to choose a prom dress that could age… questionably. So what’s the alternative? What styles are truly timeless?
There can only be one winner: the corset prom dress. Conjuring up images of mid-century glamour of the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren, the corset prom dress is a beautiful, feminine garment that is unassumingly eye-catching.
Corset prom dresses are a perfect fit for all body types, as the corset caters to and flatters all shapes and sizes. The tailored fit of a corset dress creates a shapely silhouette without giving too much away, and can work for all manner of unforgettable occasions from your prom night, to a winter formal, to your coveted homecoming dance. No corset prom dress looks the same, so you’ll have a range of options to suit your own personal style.
One of the amazing things about a corset prom dress is that it offers endless customisation. For example, purchasing a corset bodice (that’ll cinch your waist in and create an exquisite hourglass silhouette) gives you the freedom to choose the bottom half. Depending on your personal preference, this could take the form of a long, flowing maxi skirt for a perfect princess look, or something more shapely like a fishtail fit for an enviable ‘mermaid’ contour to your look. Two piece prom dresses have become more and more popular in recent years, as they allow the wearer to really put their own stamp on an unforgettable evening.
At Corset Story, we understand the importance of wanting to look your best on prom night. Our range helps you create the perfect two piece prom dress, with the help of our styled corsets.
Not only do we stock dazzling standalone corsets, we also have a range of ‘corset tops’ made from luxurious satins, with a variety of sleeves that will lend themselves beautifully to your overall prom corset dress look.
Corsets don’t just have to come in the traditional black - at Corset Story we have a glorious selection of colours, from sophisticated deep reds, to mature emerald greens, and feminine dusky pinks. Our statement corset tops come with decorated sleeves, incorporating statement lace, as well as demure sweetheart bustlines. There’s always more than meets the idea with our corset selection, with intricate embroidery and beading, and stunning embellishments. They’re just crying out to be paired with a matching black skirt (you choose the length and design!), ready to be your perfect corset prom dress.
